Litz Wires

High-performance connectivity for high-frequency applications

At Casa Masfarné, we specialize in the manufacture of high-quality Litz wires, formed by multiple fine strands of enameled copper grouped and braided. These conductors are specifically designed to optimize electrical performance in medium and high-frequency applications, offering great flexibility, energy efficiency, and mechanical resistance.

Technical Advantages

Our Litz wires are optimized for frequency ranges between 10 kHz and 5 MHz, and offer multiple benefits:
  • Reduction of the Skin Effect:

Thanks to the individual insulation of each copper wire, alternating current losses are minimized, significantly improving efficiency at high frequencies.
  • Decrease in the Proximity Effect:

The braided construction reduces additional losses caused by magnetic fields generated between adjacent conductors, which is crucial in high current density applications.

Common Applications

Litz wires are key components in advanced electronic and power systems, including:
  • High-frequency transformers
  • Inductors and coils for switched-mode power supplies (SMPS)
  • Wireless chargers
  • Resonant systems
  • Power and conversion electronics
  • Electrical automation
  • Medical equipment (magnetic resonance imaging)
  • Renewable energy
  • Rail sector
  • Aeronautics and aerospace

Related products

The company also offers essential products such as electrical connections, Litz wires, flexible Cl.5 / Cl.6 conductors, and flexible braids, which are essential for optimal electrical conduction and efficiency.

Technical Design and Specifications

The construction of each Litz wire is defined according to the electrical parameters (frequency, intensity, and working environment). The most relevant technical aspects include:

Wire diameter (Table 1):
Selected according to the working frequency, from 0.05 mm Ø to 5 mm Ø

Type of enamel and number of layers (Table 2):

  • Grade 1: One layer of varnish (solderable).
  • Grade 2: Two layers of varnish (non-solderable).

Available thermal classes:

  • F155 (155 ºC): Polyurethane varnish
  • F180 (180 ºC): Polyester or polyurethane varnish
  • F200 (200 ºC): Polyester or polyamide varnish.

Solderability: The type of enamel can be adapted to be solderable or non-solderable according to the assembly requirements.

Total number of wires: Determined according to the desired total section.

Type of grouping:

  • Stranded wiring: Number of strands, number of wires per strand, and possibility of a central conductor.
  • Braiding: Recommended for large quantities of fine wires, as it allows balancing the position of each wire and minimizing the effects of proximity and magnetic imbalance.

External Insulations (Table 3)
The external insulation is selected according to the thermal, mechanical, and environmental conditions of the usage environment.

We offer the following options: (Material and maximum temperature)

  • Nylon (Polyamide): Up to 120 ºC
  • Polyester: 130 ºC – 155 ºC
  • Nomex ®: Up to 180 ºC
  • Kapton ®: Up to 300 ºC
